Unfair and unreasonable late charges

I rented a simcard and an iphone for a week long trip to Brazil (~$135 + shipping). I returned the phone two weeks after arriving back home. A few weeks later, I received an unauthorized credit card charge for $500 from iphonetrip and called to inquire. After calling the customer service line and not being able to get anyone who spoke english, I submitted a complaint online. The response I received stated that in addition to the $500 charge, I owe $415 more for a total of $915 for a two week late fee! I understand a small fee, but this is extortion!

IPhonetrip - AVOID!

IPhonetrip - AVOID!
Updated by user Oct 22, 2011

Update 10-22-11

The company has contacted me and provided a full refund for the service time that I was not able to use. They also updated their website to clarify their usage policy. Thus, I hereby retract my complaint for this company.

AVOID IPHONETRIP.COM! I rented an "unlimited" SIM card from them for a 10-week trip overseas. I used their service in 13 countries and it did work fairly well, although some countries it was extremely slow and did not reach anywhere near the advertised speeds. However, on about the eighth week of my trip, I received an email from iPhonetrip saying that my account would be shut down immediately because I had exceeded my "weekly data limit." They claimed that I had downloaded 8GB of data in one day! First of all, that is impossible with the slow speeds that I was experiencing. Second of all, my iPad showed that I had only used 4GB of data for the ENTIRE 8 WEEKS. However, they would not listen to any of this and refused to re-enable my account. Remember, on top of all of this, that the website said that I was renting an "unlimited SIM card" and made no mention of a weekly data limit. At this point, my final month of service was just beginning, so I replied to iPhonetrip and asked them to cancel my account and refund the final month of service. However, they refused to give me a full refund and, after much haggling, finally agreed to give me a partial refund. It is clear that this is a shady, dishonest company based overseas. I plan on avoiding their service at all costs and advise you to do the same. Sincerely, Keith Gilbert

Iphonetrip.com - iPhone Rentals: Shut Off My Line, No Refund

I read good reviews about iphonetrip.com the online iphone rentals for travelers. I spoke to them on the phone and they assured me that I will have 3g coverage where ever I travel. This was not the case, many areas that you would think have at least normal reception were in reality dead zones. Immediately I contacted iphonetrip.com and someone in the call center gave me the run around and wasted my time resetting the phone and taking the sim card in and out. In the end none of the suggestions they gave me actually worked. The final straw was when on the last day prior to my return to United States, my line was completely shut off. I purchased a calling card and called the 800 number on the site, they told me that there are technical difficulties and they will restore the service. Service was not restored and I spent over 40 euros on communication. Be cautious when renting iphones from this company, they are very friendly and assuring but unfortunately the service does not work as promised. No refund was issued.
